Aion 2 Combat Basics: Dodge, Crowd Control and Defiance
How to survive fights in Aion 2: Dodge and Stamina, the 20 status effects in three families, what removes each, Defiance, potions, cleanses and boss stagger.
Nesta página
Most deaths in Aion 2 are not about damage. They happen when you stand still in a stun, burn your escape on the wrong effect, or dodge with an empty Stamina bar. This guide covers the tools every class shares: Dodge, the 20 status effects and the three families they belong to, Defiance, Healing Potions and the class skills that cleanse or make you immune. A short section at the end covers boss stagger and attacks from behind.
Every name and number below comes from the EU client data. Tips that are our opinion are marked as advice.
In 30 seconds
- Dodge costs Stamina, not a cooldown. It has a half-second lockout and you can't use it while you can't move, so dodge before the hit lands, not after.
- Status effects come in three families: Impact (stuns, knockdowns, airborne, grabs), Mental (fear, sleep, polymorph, taunt, seal, silence) and Ailment (frost, paralysis, root, slow, poisons and the rest).
- Defiance is your one "get out" button. It removes Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear, then makes you immune to status effects for 5 seconds. It starts at a 60-second cooldown, and cooldown reduction doesn't shorten it.
- Healing Potions remove the light effects (root, slow, blind, seal, poison, bleed, lethargy and stat-lowering debuffs) but never a stun or other hard effect. Save Defiance for those.
- Hit bosses from behind. Attacks from behind ignore the target's Block.
Dodge and Stamina
Every class has its own copy of Evasão Urgente, and they all work the same way. It moves you
a short distance in the direction you hold and ignores collision on the way. The key guide lists it as Evasion/Sprint: the same
key that makes you sprint out of combat.
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Cost in combat | 300 Stamina |
| Cost out of combat | 100 Stamina |
| Lockout between two dodges | 0.5 seconds |
| Usable while stunned, rooted or grabbed | No |
Stamina is the same bar that sprinting and mount sprinting drain, and it refills over time. A dodge in combat costs three times as much as one outside it.
Advice: in group content, keep enough Stamina for one dodge at all times. Sprinting between packs in a dungeon is how players arrive at a boss with nothing left to dodge with. Ground markers and boss wind-ups are made to be dodged, not tanked.
The three families of status effects
The client sorts every harmful effect into three families. Each family has its own resist stat (Impact-type, Mental-type and Ailment-type Resist), and the family decides what can remove the effect.
| Effect | Family | What it does | Removed by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stun | Impact | Can't move or act | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Knockdown | Impact | Can't move or act | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Airborne | Impact | Can't move or act | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Grab | Impact | Can't move or act | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Fear | Mental | You run away from the caster | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Taunt | Mental | You walk to the caster and attack it | A party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Sleep | Mental | Can't move or act; breaks when you're hit | A party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Polymorph | Mental | Can't move or act; breaks when you're hit | A party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Seal | Mental | Can't use skills | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Silence | Mental | Can't use magic skills | Cleanse skills |
| Frost | Ailment | Can't move or act; a Frost Burst hit breaks it | Defiance; a party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Paralyze | Ailment | Can't move or act | A party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Petrify | Ailment | Can't move or act | A party cleanse (not guaranteed) |
| Root | Ailment | Can't move | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Restrain | Ailment | Can't use physical skills | Cleanse skills |
| Blind | Ailment | Your attacks miss more often | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Lethargy | Ailment | Lower Combat Speed | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Slow | Ailment | Lower Move Speed | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Poison | Ailment | Damage over time; less healing from potions and skills | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
| Bleed | Ailment | Damage over time | Healing Potion, cleanse skills |
Class cleanses remove a set number of debuffs, which depends on the skill and its level. The client doesn't list which hard controls they can clear, and a stunned player can't cast their own, so count on Defiance for those.
Two effects need a closer look:
- Sleep and Polymorph break when you're hit; some only after a set number of hits. A party member can wake you up just by hitting you, and a Sorcerer's polymorph on you ends as soon as anyone attacks you.
- Frost ends when the frozen target is hit by the Sorcerer skill
Explosão Congelante, which is built to follow a freeze.
Defiance: your one escape
Every class has Remoção de Impacto (the link shows the Gladiator's; all eight classes share the
same rules). It:
- removes Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear from you;
- grants Tenacity for 5 seconds: you are immune to status effects;
- ignores every cooldown reduction effect (gear lines, buffs, the Illusion deity stat).
Its cooldown shrinks with skill level instead: 60 seconds at level 1, one second less per level, so 51 seconds at level 10 and 41 seconds at level 20.
Defiance Specialties
Like other active skills, Defiance has five Specialty options. Three open at skill level 8, one at 12 and one at 16; the slots themselves open at levels 8, 12 and 20.
| Specialty | Opens at | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Chain skill | 8 | Adds a class-specific follow-up (table below), 120-second cooldown |
| Stamina | 8 | Restores 1,000 Stamina when you use Defiance |
| Health | 8 | Restores 20% HP (10% for the Cleric and the Chanter) |
| Longer Tenacity | 12 | +2 seconds of Tenacity (7 in total) |
| Damage Tolerance | 16 | +50% PvE and +25% PvP Damage Tolerance while Tenacity lasts |
The chain skill turns the escape into a counterattack:
| Class | Chain skill | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Melee hit, Knockdown | ||
| Pulls a target from 20 m, Root and a chance to Stun | ||
| Hits up to 4 targets around you, Stun | ||
| Ranged hit, Stun | ||
| Turns a target into a tree while you back off | ||
| Ranged hit with a chance of Fear and Root | ||
| Heals your HP and restores MP | ||
| Hits up to 4 targets near your target, Stun |
Advice: in PvE, take the Stamina or Health Specialty first and Longer Tenacity at 12. In PvP the chain skill is usually worth its slot: you leave the stun and stun them back.
When to press it
- Grabs, stuns and knockdowns in PvP. These chain into a full burst. A Defiance during the first one saves your life; a Defiance after the burst saves nothing.
- Boss mechanics that throw you around. Many bosses knock players into the air or down just before a big hit. Defiance there turns a wipe into a dodge.
- Not for slows, roots or seals. Defiance doesn't remove them. Use a Healing Potion.
Other ways out
Healing Potions
The cleanse potions remove the light effects, including debuffs that lower your stats. They never remove a stun, knockdown or other effect that stops you from acting, nor Silence or Restrain.
| Potion | Removes | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|
| 1 status effect | 10 seconds, shared by all cleanse potions | |
| 2 status effects | 10 seconds, shared |
Advice: put a Healing Potion on your quick bar from the first day. Against a Ranger or an Assassin, a root removed one second early is the difference between escaping and dying.
Class cleanses and immunities
Some classes carry extra tools. Cleanses remove debuffs from you (and often the party); immunity skills make you untouchable for a few seconds.
| Class | Skill | Effect | Cooldown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heals and removes 1 debuff from the party within 40 m | 12 s | ||
| Heals and removes up to 2 debuffs from the party within 40 m | 90 s | ||
| Heals and removes debuffs from the party within 40 m | 15 s | ||
| Removes Slow and Root, 10 s of immunity to both, +200 Evasion | 90 s | ||
| 3 s of immunity to damage and status effects | 150 s | ||
| 3 s of immunity to damage and status effects | 150 s | ||
| 5 s of immunity to damage and status effects | 180 s |
Cooldowns are the base values at skill level 1.
Bosses: stagger and attacks from behind
Stagger. A boss has stagger points. Some skills drain them, and when they reach zero the boss is staggered. Many bosses are immune to the effects that stop a target from acting (the client calls it Incapacitated Immunity), and several class skills behave differently against such targets. Advice: a stagger is the moment to use your biggest skills, so keep one burst cooldown ready when the boss's stagger gauge is almost empty.
Attacks from behind. The client's Back Attack stats all say the same thing: an attack from behind ignores the target's Block, and in the client Block covers weapon parries as well as shield blocks. If the Combat Analysis window shows a lot of blocked or parried hits, move behind the boss. Advice: melee damage dealers should stand there by default and let the tank hold the front.
For min-maxers: the resist math
- Two layers of resist. Each family has a resist stat (Impact-type, Mental-type, Ailment-type Resist), and each single effect has its own (Stun Resist, Root Resist, Fear Resist and so on). Status Effect Resist covers everything. The attacker's Status Effect Chance works against all of them.
- Resist is a chance, Tenacity is a guarantee. Resist lowers the odds that an effect lands. Tenacity, Salvation-type skills and the class immunities block it outright for their duration.
- Cooldown reduction is capped at 60%, and Defiance ignores it anyway. Its only shortcut is skill level.
- The client caps Combat Speed at +200%, far above what gear reaches. Players report that animations only speed up at certain thresholds, which depend on the weapon. Those thresholds are community measurements, not client data, so test them on your own weapon before you reroll gear for them.
- There is no auto-combat on EU/NA. Auto Combat is in the EU client, but it is not open yet.

FAQ
Why didn't my dodge work? You were already stunned, rooted or grabbed (Dodge can't be used while you can't move), your Stamina was below 300, or you pressed it within half a second of the last one.
Does Defiance remove Taunt or Sleep? No. Its skill text lists Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear. Sleep, Polymorph, Taunt and Paralyze can only be cleared by a party cleanse, and not reliably; Sleep and Polymorph also break when you're hit (some only after a set number of hits).
Should I level Defiance? Yes, once your damage skills are in place. Each level is one second off its cooldown, and level 12 gives two more seconds of immunity. Our class guides say where it fits in each build.
Do Healing Potions share a cooldown with HP potions?
No. Healing Potions (the cleanse) share a 10-second cooldown with each other. HP comes from Life
Potions such as Poção de Vida (Vinculado), which have their own 30-second cooldown.
