Aion 2 Classes: the 8 at EU/NA Launch, Weapons, Roles & How to Choose
The eight classes of the Aion 2 EU/NA launch — Gladiator, Templar, Ranger, Assassin, Spiritmaster, Sorcerer, Cleric and Chanter — with weapons, party roles and picking advice, plus the Brawler that comes later.
On this page
Aion 2 launches in EU/NA with eight playable classes. The Brawler is in the client files but not in the EU/NA release: it comes later, and none of its 38 skills has a name yet in the EU/NA client (the names are "???" placeholders). Unlike the original Aion's class-evolution system, you pick your real class at character creation — there is no generic "Warrior who becomes a Gladiator at level 10" stage in your hands. Under the hood every character does technically start as a Novice archetype, but the choice you make on the creation screen is the class you play.
Every class is available to both factions (Elyos and Asmodians) and both body types, so pick whatever fits your playstyle — faction changes your story and battleground, not your toolkit. This overview is built from the class data of the EU/NA client; you can browse the raw entries in the class database.

The role tags above come straight from the game's party-matching data — where a class lists two roles, it can queue as either.
The tanks
Gladiator — greatsword bruiser
The Gladiator swings a greatsword and is the game's flex frontliner: the matchmaker accepts it
as either tank or dealer. Its kit is built around heavy, committed swings —
Rending Blow,
Keen Strike and the wide
Crushing Wave — with
enough self-sustain and control to hold a boss when no Templar is around. If you want to hit hard
and still get instant dungeon queues, this is the pick.
Templar — the dedicated wall
The Templar is Aion 2's pure tank: sword in hand, it is the only class whose party role is
tank and nothing else. Skills like Vicious Strike keep threat, while defensive tools
such as
Doom Shield define its identity — you are the one who does not move when the
boss does something scary. Templars are always in demand for party dungeons and raids.
The physical dealers
Ranger — bow sniper
The Ranger fights at maximum range with a bow. Expect aimed burst (Deadshot,
Snipe), kiting tools and traps. Rangers punish anything that has to walk to
them — which in a game with flight and verticality is a lot of things.
Assassin — dagger burst
The Assassin is the melee dagger class: stealth-flavored, mobile and lethal in short windows.
Quick Slice chains into fast follow-ups, and
Throw Shadowblade gives it a
ranged opener. High skill ceiling, high payoff — the classic pick for PvP-minded players.
Brawler — gauntlet berserker (coming later to EU/NA)
The Brawler is not playable at the EU/NA launch; this preview is based on its client data.
The Brawler (listed internally as "Fighter") punches things with gauntlets and is the one class that runs on AP instead of MP — an aggression-fueled resource that rewards staying on target. Its whole kit is still unnamed in the EU/NA client (the skill names are "???" placeholders), so the class page is the place to watch once a patch names them. If you want relentless melee tempo rather than rotation management, the Brawler is unique in the roster.
The magic dealers
Sorcerer — spellbook artillery
The Sorcerer channels raw elemental damage through a magicbook: Flame Scattershot for
sustained pressure,
Firestorm for area devastation. Fragile, stationary,
devastating — the archetypal glass cannon, and historically the class tourists regret fighting.
Spiritmaster — spirits and attrition
The Spiritmaster (internally "Elementalist") uses an orb and fights through summoned spirits
and damage-over-time attrition — Cold Shock chills,
Combustion burns,
and its spirits give it a solo-leveling safety net no other dealer has. It even carries a
dedicated
Return: All Spirits recall skill for managing its pets. Great for players who like
managing a small ecosystem rather than a burst window.
The healers
Cleric — the main healer
The Cleric is the game's dedicated healer, swinging a mace when not keeping the party
vertical. It is not helpless on damage — Earth's Retribution and
Judgment Thunder are
real spells — but its party role is healing, full stop. Healers are the rarest queue role in
every MMO; Clerics never wait long for a group.
Chanter — battle support
The Chanter fights with a staff and is listed as healer or dealer: a melee-adjacent
support that heals, buffs and hits things with Onslaught and
Incandescent Blow. If you want your group to be better because you exist, but refuse to
play whack-a-mole with health bars all night, the Chanter is the compromise the genre rarely
offers.
How to choose
- Fastest queues:
Templar,
Cleric — the pure tank and the pure healer.
- Best solo leveling:
Spiritmaster (pets),
Gladiator (durability and AoE).
- Highest mechanical ceiling:
Assassin (and the Brawler once it comes to EU/NA).
- Comfort at range:
Ranger,
Sorcerer.
- "I want to flex roles":
Gladiator (tank/dealer) or
Chanter (healer/dealer).
Skill names and numbers come from the EU/NA client, and a client patch can retune them; weapons and party roles are part of the class data itself, so they are much less likely to move. Once you've picked, check your class's five Daevanion boards to see how it grows past level 12, and browse its full kit in the skill database.
