Aion 2 Pets & Mounts: Souls, Insight and Genus

How Aion 2 pets work: souls, Pet Insight levels, what each genus gives every character, collection rewards, where to farm and how Genus Insight analysis rolls.

On this page

In Aion 2 every pet is also a mount, and every pet you own adds permanent stats. Collecting pets is one of the few sources of power that keeps growing at level 45, and it never runs out of things to do: there are 207 pets in the EU/NA client. This guide explains how you get them, what they give, where to farm them and how the Genus Insight layer on top works.

Every number below comes from the EU client data. Tips that are our opinion are marked as advice.

In 30 seconds

  1. Kill monsters to collect their souls. 5 souls of a monster register it as your pet.
  2. Level each pet to 3 with more souls (25, then 75). Level 1 lets you ride it, level 2 glide with it and level 3 transform into it.
  3. Every pet you own adds stats to your character, and they stack across all your pets. A level-3 pet gives up to three stat lines, depending on its genus.
  4. Your collection pays out: every 10 pets (and at 5) you get Soul Crystals, every 50 a stack of Empathy Candy.
  5. Genus Insight turns the same pets into a second stat board with up to 9 rolled lines per genus. That's where the big damage lines are.

How a pet unlocks and levels

Pets come from monsters. Each monster that can become a pet drops its soul when you kill it, and you collect souls just by fighting as you travel.

StepSoulsTotal soulsWhat it unlocks
Register the pet55Pet Insight 1: ride it as a mount
Pet Insight 22530Glide with it
Pet Insight 375105Transform into it

105 souls take a pet from nothing to its maximum. Souls you collect past that aren't wasted: crystallize them in the pet window to turn them into Soul Crystals, the currency of Genus Insight analysis.

Every pet runs at the same base speed (900 on the ground, 1,200 sprinting), so pick the one you like the look of. The Fera genus bonus below raises the ground speed of all of them.

What each genus gives

Pets belong to five genera. Each pet you own adds its genus's Owned Effect, and the effect grows with that pet's Pet Insight level:

GenusPetsPet Insight 1Pet Insight 2Pet Insight 3
Cogni41+10 HP+20 HP, +1 Critical Hit+30 HP, +2 Critical Hit, +1 Might
Natura48+300 Stamina+600 Stamina, +1 Critical Hit Resist+900 Stamina, +2 Critical Hit Resist, +1 Precision
Fera65+1 Mount Ground Move Speed+2, +1 Accuracy Bonus+3, +2 Accuracy Bonus, +1 Dexterity
Varian460.1% less mount sprint Stamina0.2%, +1 Evasion Bonus0.3%, +2 Evasion Bonus, +1 Constitution
Special7–––

Those numbers look small per pet, but they add up. With every Cogni pet at level 3, for example, you'd own +1,230 HP, +82 Critical Hit and +41 Might from that genus alone (our sum over the open pets).

Advice: take every pet you own to at least Pet Insight 2. The step from 1 to 2 costs 25 souls and adds the first combat stat; the step to 3 costs 75.

Collection rewards

The Collection Status counts how many pets you own and pays a reward at each milestone:

Pets ownedReward
5, 10, 20, 30, 40100Soul Crystal (Bound)×100 each
5010Empathy Candy (Bound)×10
60–90, 110–140 and 160–190, every 10100 Soul Crystals each
100, 150 and 20010 Empathy Candy each

With all 207 pets you collect 21 milestones: 1,700 Soul Crystals and 40 Empathy Candy (our count). The table continues to 500, ready for future pets.

Where to farm pets

Most pets come from open-world monsters, and the spawn data shows where each one lives:

WherePets (from the spawn data)
Both Verteron and Altgard69
Only in Verteron (Elyos homeland)44
Only in Altgard (Asmodian homeland)39
Only in Chaotic Lower Reshanta5
Expedition bosses and other instancesthe rest

That's 157 pets from open-world monsters. The other faction's pets are in its homeland, so you reach them through the Spacetime Rifts that open every 3 hours at level 45 (see the Abyss and PvP guide). The rest come from expedition bosses, events and shops.

The pet database lists every pet with its monster, and each region page, such as Verteron, shows what you can farm there. The My Collections tracker remembers which pets you own and how many souls each still needs.

Advice: while leveling, don't go out of your way. Kill what's on your path and register pets as they come. At 45, pick one genus and finish it: Cogni for HP and Critical Hit, Fera for Accuracy and riding speed.

Genus Insight: the second layer

Every pet also feeds the Insight of its genus (Cogni Insight, Fera Insight and so on). Each genus levels from 1 to 10, and each level opens one more analysis slot that rolls a random stat line.

Genus Insight EXP

SourceGenus Insight EXP
Obtain a pet500
Reach Pet Insight 2250
Reach Pet Insight 3250
One analysis, per slot100

A pet at Pet Insight 3 is worth 1,000 EXP to its genus. Special pets give none: that genus only grows through analysis.

Genus Insight level2345678910
Total EXP5002,0005,00010,00020,00040,00080,000150,000250,000

So pets alone take every genus except Special to level 7: Fera's 65 pets give 65,000 EXP, and even Cogni's 41 give 41,000. Beyond that, analysis does the work (our calculation from the two tables).

Analysis slots and what they roll

Slot 1 opens at Genus Insight 1, slot 2 at level 2, and so on up to slot 9 at level 9. Each analysis costs 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina per slot, and you can use that genus's crystals or general Soul Crystal (Bound). Locking a line you like keeps it through the next analysis, but locks cost extra crystals and Kina, and the client's lock prices climb steeply (from 8 crystals and 2,000 Kina up to 396 crystals and 99,000 Kina).

Each slot rolls from its own pool. The pools repeat in a pattern:

SlotsPoolBest lines
1 and 5OffenseBoss Attack, PvE Attack, Critical Attack, Penetration
2 and 8DefenseHP increase, Critical Damage Defense, Boss Defense
3, 6 and 9PrecisionCritical Hit, Accuracy Bonus, Back Attack Critical Hit
4Damage boostDamage Boost, PvE Damage Boost, the genus's own Damage Boost
7Damage reductionDamage Tolerance, PvE Damage Tolerance

Every slot can also roll the genus's own lines (for example Fera Attack, which only works against Fera monsters) and plain HP or MP.

Grades and the odds by level

Higher Genus Insight levels roll better grades:

Genus InsightCommonRareEpicUniqueHeroic
190%10%–––
450%45%5%––
735%34%30%1%–
925%25%39%10%1%
1020%30%30%15%5%

The biggest lines only exist at the top grades. In slot 4, for example, Damage Boost rolls 1–2% at Unique and 1.5–3% at Heroic, and PvE Damage Boost 1.5–3% and 2–4%.

Advice: don't spend Soul Crystals on analysis below Genus Insight 7. The odds of the good grades are too low. Raise the genus with pets first, then analyze, and lock slot 4 as soon as it rolls a Damage Boost line you want to keep.

FAQ

Are pets shared by my characters? Yes, on the same server. Pets and Genus Insight belong to the server, so a new character there starts with every pet you already own. Our alts guide lists what else is shared.

Does a better pet run faster? No. All pets share the same speeds. Fera pets raise your mount ground speed as an owned effect, whatever pet you ride.

What do I do with extra souls? Crystallize them into Soul Crystals. They pay for Genus Insight analysis.

Why can't I find a pet's monster? Some pets come only from expedition bosses or from the other faction's homeland, and a few from events or shops. The pet database shows each pet's source.
