Aion 2 Abyss & PvP Guide for Level 45 (EU/NA)

The Abyss at the EU/NA level cap: entry and weekly time, the Artifact Siege, Abyss bosses, the three arenas, Abyss Points, the shop, Azphel and Abyss ranks.

On this page

The Abyss is where Elyos and Asmodians meet, and at the EU/NA launch it's the only place where PvP and Abyss Points come together. This guide covers what opens at level 45, how the weekly Abyss time works, the Artifact Siege and the Abyss bosses, the three arenas, where Abyss Points come from and what to spend them on, the Azphel board and the Abyss ranks.

Every number below comes from the EU client data. Tips that are our opinion are marked as advice.

In 30 seconds

  1. Level 45 and item level 1,000 open Chaotic Lower Reshanta. Chaotic Middle Reshanta asks for item level 3,000, so Lower Reshanta is the Abyss of this season.
  2. You get 7 hours a week inside Lower Reshanta. The clock only runs while you're in it and refills on Wednesday.
  3. Three fixed events bring the factions together: the Artifact Siege (Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:00), the Abyss bosses (five evenings a week) and the Spacetime Rifts into the enemy homeland every 3 hours.
  4. The arenas pay Abyss Points without using Abyss time. The 10v10 Arena of Tactics runs on equal terms, so your gear doesn't decide it.
  5. Spend Abyss Points on growth first: Stigma Shards, the amulet scrolls, Azphel crystals and the weekly manastones. The shop sells no PvP gear this season.

Getting in

The Abyss unlocks at level 45. Its first layer, Lower Reshanta, also checks your item level: 1,000. Up to 1,500 players share one Lower Reshanta. The second layer, Middle Reshanta, asks for item level 3,000, even more than the Ludra raid (2,800).

LayerLevelItem levelPlayers per instance
Chaotic Lower Reshanta451,0001,500
Chaotic Middle Reshanta453,0001,100

Not at 1,000 yet? Our level 45 guide and the 1,400 item level route show how to get there with the free one-time rewards and the first Conquest drops.

The weekly Abyss time

Each character gets 7 hours of Lower Abyss time per week. The game only deducts it while you're inside, and it resets to 7 hours at the weekly reset (,  provisional server time). It doesn't carry over.

You can add time with a Lower Abyss Rift Stone, which adds 1 hour. Monsters in Lower Reshanta drop it. The membership doesn't add Abyss time in the EU/NA client.

Advice: never stand idle in the Abyss. Log out or leave when you take a break, or the clock keeps running.

The Artifact Siege

Lower Reshanta holds three artifacts. On Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 21:00 (server time) the Artifact Siege starts and a Dimensional Core appears at each artifact.

  • Break the core. The faction that lands the last hit on a core claims its artifact. Players of the winning faction get Abyss Points based on their contribution, up to a set number of players.
  • Hold the buff. Each artifact your faction holds raises the Abyss Points you earn: 2.5% for one, 5% for two and 7.5% for all three.
  • Run the Abyss Corridor. When the siege ends, an entrance to the Abyss Corridor opens at each artifact for the faction that holds it. You get 5 minutes inside.
  • The comeback door. If one faction loses every artifact on the floor, a separate Abyss Corridor opens at that faction's base, and only its members can enter. It also lasts 5 minutes.

The artifacts, their buffs and the corridors stay until the next siege.

Advice: be on time

Most of the siege's Abyss Points go to the players who helped break a core. Arrive before 21:00, join a group, and save your Abyss time for the evening rather than spending it all in the afternoon.

The Abyss bosses

Lower Reshanta has eight named bosses. Seven of them run on a timer:

BossWhen (server time)
Watcher KairaEvery 3 hours from 01:00
Guardian Lord Nahma (three spawns)Friday and Sunday, 21:00
Executor TamasaMonday, Thursday and Saturday, 21:30
Executor ArgoMonday, Thursday and Saturday, 21:30
Executor KairaMonday, Thursday and Saturday, 21:30

The eighth, Argo, the Spirit King, has a normal respawn. On siege nights the three Executors spawn 30 minutes after the siege starts, so both factions are already in the area. Use the Event Timer for the next spawn in your time zone, and the interactive map for where each one stands.

Spacetime Rifts

Every 3 hours, starting at 02:00 server time, Spacetime Rifts open in Verteron and Altgard. From level 45 they take you into the other faction's homeland. That's PvP outside the Abyss, and rift time is counted separately from your Abyss time. Clearing an enemy-faction Sealed Dungeon through a rift pays Abyss Points and Enhance Stones.

Advice: a red marker on the minimap means enemies are close. Fly between objectives rather than riding, and leave before the rift closes.

The three arenas

The arenas open at level 45, use matchmaking and don't use your Abyss time.

ArenaFormatRulesReward for playingReward for winning
Arena of Solitude1v13 lives, 10 minutes300 Abyss Points (10 a week)500 Abyss Points (30 a week)
Arena of Cooperation5v51 life, 10 minutes300 Abyss Points (10 a week)500 Abyss Points (30 a week)
Arena of Tactics10v10Equal conditions, 10 minutes1,000 Abyss Points and 1 Silver Medal of Merit (3 a week)3,000 Abyss Points and 2 Silver Medals (3 a week)

The Arena of Tactics is only open from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 19:00 to 21:00 (server time), every day. Its mode this season is Odyle Shard Cradle: both teams fight over a single Shard Catalyst. Get it into the enemy camp and you win on the spot; if nobody manages that within the 10 minutes, the side that moved it farthest takes the match. Everyone fights on equal terms, which makes it the best PvP for a fresh 45.

The weekly reward counts reset on Wednesday. A full week of arena rewards adds up to 48,000 Abyss Points: 2 × (10 × 300 + 30 × 500) from the 1v1 and 5v5 arenas, plus 3 × 1,000 + 3 × 3,000 from the Arena of Tactics (our calculation from the reward tables). The Arena of Tactics also pays up to 9 Silver Medals of Merit a week (3 × 1 + 3 × 2).

Abyss Points: where they come from

Abyss Points are the currency of this whole system. The sources at level 45:

SourceWhat you get
ArenasUp to 48,000 a week (table above)
Artifact SiegeA share for the players who broke a core, plus up to +7.5% on all Abyss Points while your faction holds the artifacts
Abyss CorridorA 5-minute run after each siege for the faction holding the artifact
Command scrollsThe Abyss command merchant's weekly scrolls (see the routine guide)
Supply RequestsAbyss Points for crafted and gathered deliveries
Spacetime RiftsAbyss Points for clearing enemy Sealed Dungeons

Abyss Points have three limits in the game's HUD: a weekly PvE limit, a weekly PvP limit and a season total. The weekly ones reset on at . The game shows how close you are to each one when you hover the Abyss Point counter.

What to buy in the Abyss shop

The Abyss Trade Shop sells growth items, skins and wings, but no PvP gear in this season. The items worth your points, in our order of priority:

Two wings are for sale too, for 200,000 and 800,000 Abyss Points, and some of the skins also cost Silver Medals. Our level 45 guide explains why Stigma Shards and the amulet scrolls come first.

The Azphel board: your PvP Daevanion

At 45 every class opens a fifth Daevanion board, Azphel. It's paid with Daevanion Crystal: Azphel, not with normal Daevanion Crystals, and holds 232 crystals' worth of nodes. Almost every node is a PvP or status-effect stat:

NodeValueNodesCrystals each
PvP Damage Boost+1.5%44
PvP Damage Tolerance+1.5%44
Status Effect Chance+1%83
Status Effect Resist+1%83
PvP Attack + PvP Defense+3 and +3082
PvP Critical Hit + PvP Critical Hit Resist+5 and +582
PvP Accuracy + PvP Evasion+5 and +382
Single PvP lines (Attack, Defense, Critical Hit, Critical Hit Resist, Accuracy, Evasion)+3 to +3016 each1
Max HP / Max MP+100 / +504 each1

The four Damage Boost nodes add up to +6% damage against players, and the four Tolerance nodes to 6% less damage from them. Azphel crystals come from the Abyss shop (above) and other PvP shops. Plan the route in the Daevanion planner.

Advice: if you PvP, path to the Damage Boost and Tolerance nodes first. If you mostly PvE, Azphel can wait: almost none of its nodes help against monsters.

Abyss ranks

The Abyss has its own season ranking, the Abyss rank. You need at least 1,500 ranking points to appear in it. Season 1 also has a ranking per class, with these ranks:

RankPlace in your classPoints needed
Supreme Commander1st20,000,000
Commander2nd13,000,000
Marshal3rd–4th9,000,000
General5th–6th6,000,000

The Seasons page lists the season rewards, and the rankings show the ladders.

PvP stats in one minute

PvP uses its own stat lines on top of your normal ones. PvP Attack and PvP Defense add and remove flat damage between players. PvP Damage Boost multiplies your damage and is reduced by the target's PvP Damage Tolerance. PvP Critical Hit and PvP Accuracy add to your normal Critical Hit and Accuracy against players, and the target's PvP Critical Hit Resist and PvP Evasion work against them. Status Effect Chance helps your stuns and roots land; Status Effect Resist helps you shrug them off. Our stats guide covers the rest.

FAQ

Can I avoid PvP completely? Mostly. The arenas are opt-in, and PvE content never puts you against players. Lower Reshanta, the siege and the rifts are open PvP areas.

Is the Abyss worth it for a PvE player? Yes, for the Abyss Points. Stigma Shards, the amulet scrolls and Amplification materials are in the Abyss shop, and the arenas pay Abyss Points without touching your Abyss time.

Why can't I enter Middle Reshanta? It needs item level 3,000, the highest gate of the season, above even the Ludra raid (2,800).

Do I need to be in a legion? Not to enter. For the siege and the Executors, a group makes the difference between contributing and dying on the way.
