Aion 2 Gear Upgrades: Manastones, Transfer and Potential
Aion 2 gear beyond enhancing: Manastone and Soulstone slots and odds, Gear Transfer tiers and what carries over, PvP Potential, and the upgrade order.
En esta página
Enhancing gets all the attention, but a level-45 piece of gear in Aion 2 has five more upgrade layers: Soul Binding, Manastones, Amplified Enhancement, Potential and, when you replace it, Gear Transfer. This guide covers the three that our other guides only mention: Manastones (and their accessory twin, Soulstones), Gear Transfer and Potential. It ends with the order we'd upgrade a piece in.
Every number below comes from the EU client data. Where we give an opinion, we mark it as advice.
In 30 seconds
- Manastone slots come from the grade: 1 on Common gear, 2 on Rare, 3 on Epic and 4 on Unique. A 100% Soul Binding rate opens one more. Weapons and armor take Manastones, accessories Soulstones.
- Each engraving rolls a stat and a grade. Superior stones roll better values and can roll Damage Boost lines (0.5% chance per stat type).
- Gear Transfer always succeeds. It moves enhance level and Soul Binding to a new piece of the same slot and tier, for one Transfer Stone (two at the top tier).
- Potential is PvP only. Four steps that can't fail, each +0.5% PvP Damage Boost (weapons, accessories) or +0.5% PvP Damage Tolerance (armor, bracelets).
- Order: enhance to +10, Soul Bind, Manastones, then the risky +11 to +15, then Amplified Enhancement, and Potential only if you PvP.
Manastones and Soulstones
Slots
| Gear grade | Manastone slots |
|---|---|
| Common | 1 |
| Rare | 2 |
| Epic | 3 |
| Unique | 4 |
Reaching a 100% Soul Binding rate on a piece unlocks one more Manastone slot. Weapons and armor take Manastones; accessories (earrings, necklaces, rings) take Soulstones. Both work the same way.
What an engraving rolls
Every engraving rolls two things: which stat (from the stone's pool) and which grade (which sets the value). The stones come in three tiers, and each tier has a normal and an Abyssal version:
| Stone | Grade odds | Critical Hit / Accuracy | Attack | HP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lesser (normal) | 70% Common, 30% Rare | 5 / 7 | 1 / 3 | 30 / 60 |
| Lesser Abyssal | 50% Common, 35% Rare, 15% Epic | 5 / 7 / 10 | 1 / 3 / 5 | 30 / 60 / 100 |
| Intermediate (both versions) | 50% Common, 35% Rare, 15% Epic | 6 / 9 / 13 | 2 / 4 / 8 | 45 / 80 / 130 |
| Superior (both versions) | 50% Rare, 35% Epic, 15% Unique | 7 / 10 / 15 | 3 / 5 / 10 | 50 (60 on the Abyssal stone) / 100 / 160 |
The pool of a normal stone has nine stats: Attack, Defense, Accuracy, Evasion, Critical Hit, Critical Hit Resist, Block, HP and MP. On a normal stone each of the seven combat stats has a 10% chance, and HP and MP 15% each (13.75% on Superior stones).
Two things change at the higher tiers:
- Abyssal stones add seven PvP lines (PvP Attack, Defense, Accuracy, Evasion, Critical Hit, Critical Hit Resist and Block), 4.5–5% each. That lowers most normal lines to 6% each (Block stays at 10%).
- Superior stones add five Damage Boost lines: Damage Boost, Weapon Damage Boost, Critical Damage Boost, Front Attack Damage Boost and Back Attack Damage Boost, each with a 0.5% chance. A Damage Boost line is worth 0.1% at Rare, 0.3% at Epic and 1% at Unique. The Superior Abyssal stone also has a 1% chance of PvP Damage Boost (0.2% / 0.6% / 2%).
Where stones come from
Piedra de maná abismal inferior (vinculado) and
Piedra de alma abismal inferior (vinculado) are in the Abyss shop: 1,000 and 2,000 Abyss Points, 50 of each a week.
- Superior stones, such as
Piedra de maná superior, are crafted, and also come from achievements and the Daeva Pass.
- Lesser and Intermediate stones drop in Transcendence and come from quests and achievements.
Advice: engrave cheap stones on gear you'll replace, and keep Superior stones for the pieces you'll wear to the end of the season. For damage, Critical Hit and Accuracy are the reliable lines; a Unique Damage Boost line is a lucky bonus, not something to farm for.
Gear Transfer
When you replace a piece, Gear Transfer moves its progress to the new one. In the client's words it "transfers Enhance Level and Soul Binding effects".
- It always succeeds (100% in the transfer table).
- It costs one
Piedra de transferencia (único) (vinculado), or two in the top tier. The stone is made by Substance Morph.
- It stays inside a tier. Unique gear is grouped by slot and by the level of the piece, and you can only transfer within the same group:
| Transfer tier | Level of the Unique piece (tooltip) |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 36–70 |
| Tier 2 | 70–86 (chest armor from 51) |
| Tier 3 | 86–102 |
| Bracelets | 51–86 |
These are the levels of the single pieces, as their tooltips show them, not your character's total item level.
- Fixed Soul Binding effects don't move. On items with fixed Soul Binding effects, only the enhance level carries over.
- Transfer crafting goes further: when a recipe uses your old item as transfer material, the crafted item keeps its enhance level, Amplified Enhancement level and Soul Binding, and it's Soul Bound to the character who crafts it.
- Superior Transfer moves gear up a grade (Unique to Heroic). Soul Binding is then applied at the enhance level of the transferred piece. Higher-grade gear can't be transferred down.
- The game counts successful transfers per season, and at the cap it shows "Cannot perform any further Gear Transfers this season".
Advice: this is why it's safe to take a Conquest Unique to +10. When you craft the Dragon Lord piece of the same slot, the +10 comes with it. Our 1,400 item level route is built on that.
Potential: the PvP layer
Potential adds a PvP line to Unique gear in four steps. Every step succeeds, and each one costs
Piedra de amplificación de potencial: Abismo (único) (vinculado) plus 100,000
Puntos de Abismo:
| Step | Potential Stones | Abyss Points | Weapon or accessory | Armor or bracelet |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 100,000 | +0.5% PvP Damage Boost | +0.5% PvP Damage Tolerance |
| 2 | 2 | 100,000 | +1% | +1% |
| 3 | 3 | 100,000 | +1.5% | +1.5% |
| 4 | 4 | 100,000 | +2% | +2% |
A full piece takes 10 Potential Stones and 400,000 Abyss Points (our sum). The Abyss shop sells the stones on a weekly limit at rising prices (see the Abyss and PvP guide). Bought there cheapest first (2 at 25,000, 4 at 50,000, then 4 at 75,000), the 10 stones cost another 550,000 Abyss Points, so a full piece comes to about 950,000 Abyss Points (our sum). The stone limit is shared by all your characters on the server.
Advice: Potential does nothing in PvE. Skip it until you PvP seriously, and then start with the weapon and accessories.
The other layers, in short
- Enhancing +1 to +10 can't fail; +11 to +15 can, but a failure only costs materials. Runes drop a level when they fail. All the odds and costs are in the level 45 guide and the Enhancement Planner.
- Soul Binding rolls the sub-stats; see the Soul Binding guide.
- Amplified Enhancement comes after +15 on Unique gear: 1, 3 or 5 steps depending on item level. The level 45 guide has the rates.
- Belt and amulet have their own scrolls from Strongholds and the Monolith; the 1,400 route explains them.
The order for one piece
For a piece you plan to keep (our advice):
- Enhance to +10. It can't fail, and every level adds item level.
- Soul Bind for the sub-stats you want, and aim for 100% for the extra Manastone slot.
- Engrave Manastones in every slot.
- Enhance +11 to +15 when you have the Kina; failures cost materials, never levels.
- Amplified Enhancement once it's at +15.
- Potential only if you PvP.
For a piece you'll replace soon, stop after step 1 and transfer the +10 later.
FAQ
Do I lose my Manastones when I transfer? The transfer text names the enhance level and Soul Binding (plus the Amplified Enhancement level in transfer crafting). It doesn't mention Manastones, so plan on engraving the new piece again.
Is a Unique Damage Boost Manastone worth chasing? No. It's a 0.5% chance for the stat times a 15% chance for the Unique grade on a Superior stone, about 1 in 1,300 engravings per Damage Boost type (our calculation).
Can Gear Transfer fail? No. Every transfer in the client's table has a 100% success chance.
Does Potential help in dungeons? No. Its lines are PvP Damage Boost and PvP Damage Tolerance, which only work against players.
