Crafting & Substance Morph Explained
Aion 2's five crafting disciplines in the EU client, the 100-level mastery track, combo crafts that upgrade your results, transfer crafting, gathering and the Substance Morph conversion system.

Crafting in Aion 2 isn't a side hobby. The best craftable weapons in the EU client sit at the top of the item-level curve, and Substance Morph (the client's name for material conversion) is how raw gathering turns into endgame materials. Here is how the whole production chain works, based on the 1,098 recipes of the EU/NA client in the recipe database.
The five crafting disciplines
| Discipline | Recipes in the EU client | Makes |
|---|---|---|
| Armorsmithing | 326 | All armor: helmets, shoulders, torsos, gloves, pants, boots and capes |
| Handicrafting | 256 | Rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets, plus bows and staffs |
| Blacksmithing | 234 | Greatswords, swords, daggers, maces and shields |
| Alchemy | 194 | Spellbooks and orbs, plus potions and other consumables |
| Cooking | 88 | Food and other consumables |
Each discipline covers a full pipeline. At high mastery, Blacksmithing makes Unique level-102 weapons like the Splendent Wise Dragon Lord Longsword, and Alchemy makes the caster versions (Dragon Lord spellbooks and orbs).
Mastery: 100 levels, two ranks
Each discipline levels on its own from 1 to 100, split into two named ranks in the EU client: Novice (levels 1–50) and Professional (51–100). Every craft gives mastery experience. The first level needs only 26 XP, and the requirement climbs steeply from there (602 XP for the first Professional level, 3,865 at level 99). Every level from 2 to 100 gives one bonus skill point (99 in total), and recipes are locked behind mastery levels. The Dragon Lord combo recipes at the top need mastery 85 to 90.
Recipes reach you three ways. Auto recipes (508) are learned automatically as your mastery rises. Combo recipes (570) come from combo crafts (see below). A small set of Advancement recipes (20) makes up the rest. If a recipe you see in the database isn't in your book, its page shows how it is learned.
The crafting roll: gauge and combos
Crafting in Aion 2 isn't a guaranteed vending machine. Two fields on a recipe shape the outcome:
- Craft gauge: every recipe has one, and filling it completes the craft. 622 recipes also have a fail gauge, the band where the attempt can go wrong.
- Combo chance: the interesting one. 298 recipes have a chance to trigger a combo, which automatically upgrades the craft into a linked, better recipe. 25% is by far the most common value (242 recipes), then 30% (42), 20% (12) and 10% (2). This is how the higher-tier combo results come out of ordinary materials. The client even tracks achievements for it ("Succeed in Crafting: Blacksmithing Combo 5 times").
A 25% combo on a competitive recipe is the difference between breaking even and making a profit. When you price a craft, always check its combo recipe on the recipe's database page. The upgraded result is usually where the value is.
Transfer crafting: upgrading, not replacing
342 of the 1,098 recipes are transfer recipes. Instead of making an item from raw materials, they use an existing item plus materials to make the next tier up. The client allows this once per item ("Can only perform transfer crafting once per item"). That is the intended gear path: craft a base, improve it, then transfer it upward. Before you salvage an old piece, check the recipe database for a transfer recipe that uses it.
Gathering: where materials come from
Out in the world you gather from six kinds of nodes, named as the game shows them: Ore, Gem, Log, Herb, Ingredient (fruit, vegetables and aquatic life) and Odyle. Gathering has its own mastery ranks, from Novice up to Artisan, so your gathering skill decides what you can harvest in higher zones. A typical chain: Orichalcum Ore feeds Blacksmithing, herbs feed Alchemy, and so on.
Substance Morph: the material refinery
Substance Morph is the other half of the economy: 263 recipes that transform materials and items instead of crafting them. The gathering tabs (Ore, Gem, Log, Herb and Ingredient) upgrade materials up the grade ladder. For example, Fine Orichalcum Ore (Rare) upgrades step by step into Pure (Epic) and then Radiant Orichalcum Ore (Unique). These upgrades always succeed: 261 of the 263 recipes are at 100%. What they cost is quantity.
The other tabs cover equipment, equipment upgrades and transfers, boss boxes, wings, event exchanges, consumables and even house decorations (picture frames and statues). 50 recipes are limited and reset weekly, most of them per character. Treat them as weekly income and use them on cooldown.
A practical production loop
- Pick the discipline your gear needs first. Casters look at Alchemy, most melee weapons come from Blacksmithing, bows and staffs from Handicrafting, and everyone wears Armorsmithing armor.
- Gather everything you walk past while leveling. Gathering mastery is cheap early and painful to catch up on later.
- Morph up, then craft. Raw materials rarely go straight into endgame recipes. Refine them to the grade the recipe asks for.
- Watch combo margins on gear crafts, and check for transfer recipes before you throw away any improved item.
- Mind the limits. The weekly-limited Morph recipes are income. Use them every week.
Numbers here come from the EU/NA client. A client patch can rebalance them, and we re-check after every patch. Browse every recipe, ingredient tree and product in the recipe database.
